EUROPEAN ACREDITATIONS
Members of Friends Of The Countryside association, which brings together land owners from across Europe, Baron Island was soon certified as a Wildlife Estate Label, accreditation granted to properties that are proven to be environmentally friendly and take good care of biodiversity.
Baron Island preservation and the recovery plan of it’s falconry tradition received Anders Wall Award diploma. The award, sponsored by the Swedish foundation that gives its name and by the European Commission, rewards the best private environmental management initiatives in the continent.
The Director General of Environment of the European Union, the Spanish Daniel Calleja, personally traveled from Brussels to the island to deliver it in the company of the Minister of Agriculture of the Murcia government, Miguel Ángel Amor. “It is a natural environment very well preserved by its owners. With a lot of history and culture. And where the various activities that are practiced are respectful and compatible with the environment”, he said after his visit.

Baron Island, in Spain named as “Isla del Barón” or “Isla Mayor” has been kept reserved and quite unknown but has appeared since the nineteenth century in several publications.
